Oil filled radiators
In an oil filled radiator, an electric heating element in the base of the radiator heats up the oil in the body of the radiator.
The oil then moves around the body of the radiator by convection, causing the whole body to heat up.
Heat is then transferred to the surrounding environment through radiant heat.
Oil filled radiators have a decent amount of heat retention as the oil remains warm for a period of time after the heating element has been switched off.
These heaters have slightly higher running costs than central heating with the equivalent BTU output.
However, they have positive attributes which makes them a viable alternative for some situations:
·If only specific rooms in a house need to be warmed then oil filled radiators are the perfect solution.
·Rapid heating can be achieved as oppose to a plumbed system.
·They are highly portable to have as ancillary devices in the house.
·Oil filled radiators can be used to dry clothes by direct contact depending on individual manufacturers specifications.
